Copa America 2011 official mascot was introduced. Bird-shaped mascots wearing the Argentine national team named Tangolero.
Tangolero is the only bird that can not fly and is originally from Argentina.
The choice of these mascots represent two traditions in Argentina, dance (tango) and football. Tangolero presented itself as a goalkeeper.
Tangolero name after a vote, which more than 6,000 people, selected journalists, students and customers of Santander Bank in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Colombia, Uruguay and Peru. The name was placed alongside five other candidates.
Santander Bank as main sponsor in the next Copa America 2011 holds the rights to the mascot. As the main sponsor Santander is the title of “Santander Trophy” for top-scorer in the championship.
Apart from Santander Bank is also a range of social programs by the Copa America, which contributed $ 1,000 for every goal that teripta in the tournament for the United Nations agency for children’s issues, UNICEF.
